In 1955 Roy Wilkins early career involved in being executive of the company of NAACP. Also in his early life he served in the international conference on human rights in 1968. Another thing in his early life he majored in journalism and sociology.Roy Wilkins went under cover to help African Americans free from slavery in Mississippi. Wilkins also was involved in the march with Martin Luther King Jr. He helped more people to vote for Martin Luther kings.
Roy Wilkins was well known in NAACP. He worked through NAACP for about 40 years. Wilkins worked just as just part of NAACP. But, once he was close to retiring Roy was promoted to Head executive until his career ended in 1977. NAACP organization stood for National Association for Advanced Colored People. As Head executive Roy Wilkins and NAACP were sup-post to help everyone with equal rights.NAACP slogan or phrase was "the mind is a terrible thing to waste".
Wilkins was one of the most important leaders in the civil rights movement next to Martian Luther King Jr. Roy was the man to lead all the campaigns. Mostly he helped out as a spokes person on the "March on Washington" . But Roy made a huge impact on being a spokes person. As a spokes person Roy shifted the public's opinion during the "March of Washington". During the "March of Washington" Wilkins got awarded the Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honor.
